I am writing this blog article while sitting in India, overlooking the Taj Mahal. We are traveling through India and Sri Lanka and have been looking forward to this trip for a long time. But as exciting as planning the route is, we also know how useful it is to have internet from the moment you land, whether it is to arrange your transport, for maps, your hotel details or simply sending a quick message home.
As a digital nomad family, we travel very regularly, and trying to stay connected hasn’t always been easy. Especially if we are exploring multiple countries in one trip, it can be a hassle to figure out what to do for each one. Because we have to work online and homeschool the kids, so we need to have internet wherever we are.
But that was the past. Since Holafly Connect (use code THEGLOBALWIZARDS to get 10% off) has been launched, we found our ideal plan! And we are also using it for this trip through India and Sri Lanka. It perfectly fits the way we travel: simple, flexible, unlimited data, easy to use across countries, and connected from the minute you arrive. No more switching SIM cards, comparing local providers, or buying a completely new setup every time you cross a border.

How the Holafly Connect Plan works
What immediately stood out to us about the new Holafly plan is the idea behind it: one eSIM, global coverage in more than 160 destinations, monthly billing, and the possibility to stay connected without having to start over every time your itinerary changes.
Holafly positions this plan as a global data plan for frequent travelers, with flexibility to cancel anytime and automatic connectivity when you move between countries. For a multi-country trip like ours right now (India – Sri Lanka – India), that makes a lot of sense.
There are currently two plan types in Holafly Plans: a Light Plan with 25 GB per month and an Unlimited Plan with unlimited data, both with global coverage and monthly billing. The Unlimited Plan starts at €59.95 per month and the Light Plan at €45.95 per month, both offered as launch pricing at the time of publication. For us, the appeal is not only the amount of data, but the convenience of having one plan that works across destinations without having to think about it every few days.
That is also the biggest difference compared with the classic destination-based eSIM. A country eSIM is great when you are taking one specific trip to one specific place. But when your journey is broader, more flexible or slightly open-ended, a monthly global plan starts to feel much more travel-friendly. It is made for travelers who want to keep moving without constantly managing their mobile connection in the background.
Why it makes sense for our India and Sri Lanka trip
India and Sri Lanka are not the kind of trip where we want to waste time sorting out connectivity after arrival. In both countries, we expect to rely heavily on mobile internet for practical things during the day: navigating in busy cities, booking transport on Uber, checking hotel confirmations, looking up restaurant reviews and opening hours, and staying in touch while moving around.
Especially in India, where distances are bigger and travel days can be intense, we really like the idea of landing with internet ready to go and staying connected so we can work and our kids can study online.
But no problem, as we can use our smartphone with the Holafly Connect Plan as a hotspot with unlimited data for multiple devices! Perfect when working and studying on the road, checking bookings on a laptop, or sharing connection between devices when Wi-Fi is poor. Right now, I am using my phone as a hotspot to write this article.

A few things we are keeping in mind
No travel product is perfect, and we think that is worth saying honestly. One important detail on the Holafly Plans page is that the monthly plan activates immediately upon purchase and remains valid for 30 days from the purchase date, renewing automatically each month unless canceled. That means timing matters. If you buy too early, you may waste part of the first month before the trip even starts.
For India, for example, the country eSIM (only for India) begins once you arrive and activate the eSIM at your destination, while the monthly global plan starts immediately after purchase. That distinction is important and something travelers should understand before choosing between a destination eSIM and the new monthly Holafly global plan.
Another point is that Holafly is primarily a data solution. For example, the India eSIM does not include a local phone number for normal phone calls or SMS. The monthly Unlimited Global Plan does mention a local phone number being included, but Holafly clarifies that this supports inbound SMS only and VOIP-based calling rather than traditional incoming cellular calls. For us that is not a deal-breaker, because we mostly use WhatsApp anyway with our regular number to call and send messages, but it is definitely something to know in advance.
Why we chose the HOLAFLY plan
The new Holafly Connect Plan is the right choice for this trip (and our future multi-country trips). What we want most in India and Sri Lanka is not a complicated telecom setup or the absolute cheapest possible gigabyte. We want convenience, flexibility and immediate connection from the moment we land over multiple countries. We will be taking several long train journeys, and working during those trips is essential for us.
We also think it matches the reality of modern travel. These days we rely on internet for almost everything: maps, transport, accommodation, translation, banking, messaging and day-to-day planning. In places as busy and dynamic as India, or as travel-rich and mobile as Sri Lanka, that connection stops being a luxury very quickly and becomes part of the practical side of traveling well.

Our honest opinion about the holafly monthly plan
If you are traveling to just one country for a short trip, a standard destination eSIM from Holafly may still be the most logical option. But if your trip is longer, multi-country, or slightly open-ended, the new Holafly Connect Plan is more interesting. The easy setup, quick activation and unlimited data for multiple countries is exactly why it caught our attention for India and Sri Lanka.
The biggest advantage (besides the unlimited data and hotspot option) is simply that we do not need separate eSIMs for different countries. Instead of buying one eSIM for India, another one for Sri Lanka, and one for India again when we return, we can use one plan for the whole trip, which makes everything much easier and more convenient.
Also, the installation is very easy. It took us less than 2 minutes to install the eSIM on our phone. Install the eSIM before departure, keep everything ready, and activate it as soon as you arrive. You can do the installation through the app or via a QR code and manual instructions sent by email. Data roaming should be turned on when you want to start using the plan. That is exactly the kind of setup we prefer because it means less hassle on arrival day.
That is the real value of the new Holafly Plan. It gives us one less thing to worry about, and that means more energy for the trip itself, for the colors, the food, the trains, the chaos, the coast, the temples and everything else that makes India and Sri Lanka such an exciting journey.
