Where can you find Nordics Woods Sweden?

Nordic Woods is located in the south of Sweden (Småland) on the edge of a beautiful lake and the Åsnen National Park, near the village of Ryd.

By car, it takes between 12 and 14 hours from Amsterdam or Brussels. You can choose to drive via the two large bridges, past Copenhagen and Malmö. Or you can take the ferry from Germany.

You can also fly or take the Flixbus very cheaply to Copenhagen and from there take the train to Växjö and then the bus to Ryd. The Nordic Woods crew will pick you up.

About 3 kilometers from the campsite, in the center of Ryd, you will find a fairly large ICA supermarket where you can do all your shopping.

TIP: keep in mind that if you like to drink a glass of wine or beer in the evening, it is a bit more expensive in Sweden and you might be better off bringing some from home.

Glamping in Sweden: What do the Nordic Woods tents look like?

The beautiful tipis of Nordic Woods offer space for 2 or 4 people. You can choose a tipi close to the water for an enchanting view or a tent a little deeper in the quiet forest.

The tepees are stylish and cozy with very comfortable beds. There is a small refrigerator where you can store your food. You cook in the common room with a view of the lake. It is more glamping than camping.

From your terrace you can enjoy the view or sit around the fire bowl. There is also a cooking pot above the fire (like a Dutch Oven). Lovely to cook outside!

Please note that it may be forbidden to make fire (fire ban) when it is too dry. You can find that information about fire bans on the official site of Sweden.

Would you like to spend the night in a tipi and camp in the forests of Sweden? Between June and September you can go to Nordic Woods. You always book for a full week, from Saturday to Saturday, and pay per person.

TIP: keep in mind that the tents are booked up very quickly in July and August. So if you want to book now or pre-register so that you are the first to be informed when bookings open, go to the Nordic Woods Sweden site here.

Activities included in your stay at Nordic Woods

The Nordic Woods team organises all kinds of activities during your week, many of which are included in the price of your stay.

One of the highlights for us was definitely the sunrise canoe trip. It is a very early start (around 3:30) but more than worth it. You leave from Nordic Woods with your Canadian canoe and continue on the lake. When the sun rises above the lake where the mist still hangs, there is only one word that comes to mind: magical. Definitely do it!

You can always use these canoes. Just give a signal to an employee and you can immediately go on the water. A life jacket and paddles are provided for everyone. On the domain you can also play volleyball, football, swim, …

The team also organizes several group walks in the area. We did the first one the historical tour of 5 km near Nordic Woods and then also an 8 km hike through a beautiful nature reserve Käringahejans 15 min. drive from Nordic Woods. You follow the blue path (Blekingeleden) along the river for the first part to end in the village.

Want to relax after a long day? Then you will find a hot tub at Nordic Woods Sweden that you can reserve in advance. Or would you rather go to the sauna? That is also possible and you can reach it via the wooden jetty over the lake. Lovely!

In the very beautiful communal tent there are a lot of board games present. In addition, there are also two large tepees, where yoga and meditation are given daily, and in bad weather a fire is lit inside to bake bread or eat marshmallows.

One of the most exciting activities for us and our children was undoubtedly the survival night of Nordic Woods. You go out alone with the canoe and are allowed to camp wild somewhere. All equipment is provided by Nordic Woods, such as sleeping bags, mats, a small gas stove and a tent.

TIP: we took the canoe to the other side, there we found a nice spot in the forest. That evening we were treated to a beautiful sunset.

What activities can you do near Nordic Woods Sweden?

National Parc Åsnen

This park is a whopping 1868 hectares and consists of 75% water and thousands of islands. It is a wonderful place to walk, cycle, canoe and relax.

The mythical Trollberget (troll mountain) has a lot of nice hiking trails that you can also do with children. Along the way you go in search of the treasure of silver and gold that the trolls have hidden there. More information about the legend can be found on the signs at the information center, where you also have a nice picnic spot (with bbq) and toilets.

The park is also home to many species of animals, including moose, beavers and sea eagles. More information about this park can be found on the official website of the national parks of Sweden.

TIP: Both for your stay at Nordic Woods Sweden and for exploring the area, we recommend that you protect yourself from mosquitoes, which are very active in June and July. Go for a walk in long trousers and buy mosquito milk at the local supermarket. It works much better here than ours.

Ikea Museum

The IKEA Museum is dedicated to the history of the Swedish furniture chain IKEA. It is located in the town of Älmhult, 30 minutes from Nordic Woods. The first IKEA store was opened here in 1958 by Ingvar Kamprad, the company’s founder.

The museum offers visitors the opportunity to discover IKEA’s journey from humble beginnings to a global brand, showcasing the company’s development, design philosophy and cultural impact.

What’s nice is the collection of over 70 rooms, with furniture and interior design items from different periods since the company was founded, giving you an insight into the changing trends in interior design and how IKEA has adapted to meet the ever-changing needs of customers.

The museum also has a restaurant where you can enjoy Swedish cuisine, including some classic IKEA dishes. There is also a museum shop with various IKEA products and souvenirs.

If you want to go for the full experience, you can also stay overnight at the IKEA hotel, which is located opposite the museum.
